He has finally addressed it.

David Beckham has addressed the now viral video of Joe Lycett threatening to shred £10,000.

The comedian had threatened to shred £10,000 of his own money if the footballer didn’t back down from his £10 million deal with Qatar for the World Cup as homosexuality has been criminalised under the penal code and punishable with prison sentences in the nation.

Joe described David as a huge gay icon and claimed he was selling out the LGBTQIA+ community by accepting the deal.

Posting a video on Instagram, Joe appeared to shred the £10,000 but later revealed it was fake and he had actually donated it to charity.

After not replying to the threat for the entirety of the World Cup, Joe has revealed that the footballer’s team has been in contact with him and given a response.

Reading out the reply on his show Joe Lycett’s Got Your Back, it turns out that David refused to be baited and his spokesperson insisted that the World Cup had generated a “debated on key issues” in the Middle East.

The statement reads: “David has been involved in a number of World Cups and other major international tournaments both as a player and an ambassador and he’s always believed that sport has the power to be a force for good in the world.

“Football, the most popular sport globally, has a genuine ability to bring people together and make real contributions to communities.

“We understand that there are different and strongly held views about engagement in the Middle East but see it as positive that debate about the key issues has been stimulated directly by the first World Cup being held in the region.

“We hope that these conversations will lead to greater understanding and empathy towards all people and that progress will be achieved.”

Joe said he could not give his opinion due to legal reasons but went on to read a tweet that called him names, which Joe agreed with.

“I did achieve nothing, Beckham still hasn’t addressed the issues faced by the LGBTQ people in Qatar,” it read.
