A spokesperson has issued a statement.

David and Victoria Beckham’s spokespeople have branded rumours that they power couple are set to split as “nonsense” and “an embarrassing waste of time.”

Social media rumours began late Thursday night that the couple were set to divorce after almost 20 years of marriage.

And the speculation continued into Friday, which saw the footballer’s name emerge in the top trending topics on Twitter for the United Kingdom.

A representative for the couple told The Sun that the rumours were “bizarre” and unfounded.

They continued:

“There is no statement due, no divorce, and a lot of Chinese whispers and fake social media news.

“This is all very bizarre and an embarrassing waste of time.”

It comes as Victoria shared a photo of her and their daughter, Harper, having “morning cuddles”.

She added:

“We love and miss u @davidbeckham.”

David and Victoria Beckham first met in 1997 and started dating that year. He proposed in January 1998, and the pair wed in July the following year at Luttrellstown Castle.

They have four children together: sons 19-year-old Brooklyn Beckham; 15-year-old Brooklyn Beckham; Cruz Beckham, 13; and 6-year-old daughter Harper Beckham.

Victoria first shot to fame as part of the Spice Girls, before she went on to create an incredibly successful fashion house.

Ex-professional footballer David has gone on to coach a number of other football teams, including one in Miami where he has recently been based.
