Demi Lovato says they don’t mind if you misgender them, “as long as you keep trying”

“I’m just grateful for your effort in trying to remember what means so much to my healing process.”

Demi Lovato has said that they understand that it can be difficult to use they/them pronouns correctly.

In a post on Instagram, the singer wrote that they don’t mind being misgendered, as long as people make an effort.

“If you misgender me – that’s okay,” Demi wrote.

“I accidentally misgender myself sometimes! It’s a huge transition to change the pronouns I’ve used for myself my entire life.

“And it’s difficult to remember sometimes!

“As long as you keep trying to respect my truth, and as long as I remember my truth, the shift will come naturally.”

They added: “I’m just grateful for your effort in trying to remember what means so much to my healing process.”

Demi said that they felt the need to share the message because they “often find that the change in pronouns can be confusing for some” and “difficult to remember for others”.

The singer stated that it’s “all about your intention”.

“It’s important to me that you try, but if you make a mistake, it’s okay,” they wrote. “Remember that I love you, and to keep going.”

Demi came out as non-binary earlier this summer, and announced that their pronouns are they/them.

The singer shared a video on social media, and said that they are “still learning”.

“I want to make it clear that I’m still learning and coming into myself and I don’t claim to be an expert or a spokesperson,” they said.

“I’m doing this for those out there that haven’t been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones. Please keep living in your truths and know I am sending so much love your way.”

Prior to coming out as non-binary, Lovato shared that they are pansexual during an appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast.
