Doctors urge women not to follow Kourtney Kardashian’s ‘semen’ fertility advice

“I have read no mainstream research that has advocated the drinking of sperm to be useful.”

Doctors and fertility experts have warned the public not to follow Kourtney Kardashian‘s theory that swallowing her partner’s semen will help her get pregnant.

The reality TV star has been honest about her fertility struggles in recent months, recently sharing the sad news that her latest egg retrieval hadn’t gone as well as she’d hoped.

Now, she’s opened up about some of the unusual techniques she’s implementing into her daily life to improve her chances of conceiving.

In this weeks episode of The Kardashians, the 43-year-old revealed she’s started a ‘Panchakarma cleanse’ – a controversial and intense method of trying to rid the body of toxins. As part of the cleanse, Travis and Kourtney need to abstain from sex, caffeine and exercise.

And on top of this, Kourtney said she was told by her practitioner that “the thing that would help it was drinking [Travis’ semen], like, four times a week”.

Fans were left shocked when they heard she was embracing the unusual advice.

However, experts have said there is actually no evidence drinking sperm can help one conceive. Medical Director at TFP Fertility Group Dr James Hopkisson told Metro:

“In the last 30 years of working in fertility and gynaecology, I have read no mainstream research that has advocated the drinking of sperm to be useful in helping with pregnancy.”

Instead, for men, Dr. Hopkisson recommended “supplements such as Vit C, zinc, selenium, and L-carnitene” for fertility and sterility.

Meanwhile, “women should be on Folic acid and Vitamin D to minimise the risks of spina bifida and rickets”.

Kourtney is already mum to Mason, 12, Penelope, 9, and Reign, 7. She shares her three children with her ex-boyfriend Scott Disick.

Meanwhile, Travis is father to Landon, 18, and Alabama, 16.

New episodes of The Kardashians drop on NOW every Thursday.
