Fair play, ladies.

Gold medal winners from both the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games Kellie Harrington and Ellen Keane are joining Dublin’s St Patrick’s Day parade as Grand Marshalls.

Boxer Kellie and swimmer Ellen both represented Team Ireland in Tokyo last year, with Kellie winning gold in the Women’s lightweight division at the Olympics and Ellen claiming the top medal in the Women’s 100m breaststroke event at the Paralympics.

The parade is set to begin at Parnell Square at 12pm with its grand return to the city centre after two years of it being cancelled.

The parade was cancelled in March 2020 just as the pandemic began to worsen around the globe and a virtual festival took place in 2021 due to severe Covid restrictions.

The theme for this year’s Dublin parade and the St Patrick’s Day festival as a whole, which is running from March 16th to 20th, is “connections.”

After the announcement was made, Kellie said: “I think everyone knows how much I love my country, and my beloved city.

“I carry our nation’s flag around the world with great pride and I can’t wait to be leading the magic through the streets of Dublin and to see so many smiling, happy faces on March 17th.”
