Elton John has revealed that he “could have died at any time” after being diagnosed with appendicitis.
The music legend has had to cancel the remainder of his summer tour dates after falling ill with the condition.

Elton has had to cancel his tour dates.
He said: “I was a ticking time bomb. I guess I could have died at any time. I feel so lucky and grateful to be alive. I played nine gigs and the White Tie and Tiara Summer Ball in agony.”
According to reports the 66-year-old believed he had food-poisoning but medical tests showed that he had an appendix abscess.

Elton, who has two sons with partner David Furnish, will undergo surgery in the coming weeks and will not return to the stage until he has made a full recovery.
His spokesman explained: “Elton is incredibly disappointed to postpone these tour dates. He is eager to be back on top form and return to play the remaining shows starting in early September 2013.”
