Emma Watson Is Taking A Year Off From Acting

She broke the news in recent interview

Ellen Tannam

Emma Watson has had a very busy few years since the end of the Harry Potter trilogy, starring in acclaimed films like The Bling Ring and The Perks of Being A Wallflower.

She has also been doing a lot of work for the UN around the areas of feminism and achieving gender equality with her HeForShe movement, and it looks like this is going to be her priority for the time being.

In an interview with acclaimed feminist bell hooks for Paper, Watson announced she would be taking a step back from the world of acting to concentrate on her work with the UN.

“I’m taking a year away from acting to focus on two things, really. My own personal development is one… I’m doing a huge amount of reading and study just on my own. I almost thought about going and doing a year of gender studies, then I realized that I was learning so much by being on the ground and just speaking with people and doing my reading. That I was learning so much on my own. I actually wanted to keep on the path that I’m on. I’m reading a lot this year, and I want to do a lot of listening.”

She will be using this time to help tackle major issues like the lack of women in high level positions, and the gender wage gap.
