It is being made with the “full support” of the Winehouse estate.

The first images from the Amy Winehouse biopic have been released, and predictably, many fans are divided on the matter.

The acclaimed singer-songwriter passed away in July 2011, and the upcoming feature, Back To Black, will chart the highs and lows of her life.

The film is directed by Sam Taylor Johnson, who also directed Fifty Shades of Grey and A Million Little Pieces. Unlike the 2015 documentary Amy, Back to Black will be made with the “full support” of the Winehouse estate.

The official synopsis of the film states that the story will “focus on Amy’s extraordinary genius, creativity and honesty that infused everything she did”. It is described as a “journey that took her from the craziness and colour of ‘90s Camden High Street to global adoration  – and back again.”

Speaking about the film, Taylor Johnson said: “I feel excited and humbled to have this opportunity to realise Amy’s beautifully unique and tragic story to cinema accompanied by the most important part of her legacy – her music.”

Studio Canal shared the first image from the film last week, a photo of Back to Black’s leading lady, Marisa Abela, sporting the singer’s trademark beehive mid-performance.

The Instagram account Diet Prada also shared some paparazzi shots caught mid-filming, and asked fans to weigh in.

One wrote: “This makes me very nervous about this film.”

Another penned: “Leave Amy alone”.

Aquaria, one of the winners of RuPaul’s Drag Race simply wrote, “I don’t think”, while Michelle Visage just wrote, “ENOUGH!!!”

Last week, Marisa posted a photo of herself standing in front of an Amy Winehouse mural in Camden.

In her caption, she wrote: “‘And for London. This is for London, Cause Camden Town ain’t burnin down.’

“I love you, Amy.”

Unlike the comments in Diet Prada’s page, Marisa was left numerous positive messages about the upcoming project, with plenty of celebrities – Lily Allen, Daisy Ridley and Pixie Lott – wishing her well.
