“So lucky and grateful that I get to be here…”

Brian Kennedy has shared some emotive words after finishing his final round of chemotherapy.

The singer and author announced his rectal cancer diagnosis in 2016 on live radio saying that despite the illness, he wasn’t afraid to talk about it.

“Could I get a more embarrassing form of cancer?” he said at the time. “But as my doctor pointed out, there are a lot more worse places to get this.”

“So I have cancer up the bum but I’m Brian Kennedy and I’m not afraid to talk about this kind of stuff.”

Almost three years on, and Kennedy has said that he is so grateful for everyone who supported himself throughout his diagnosis until the end of his chemo this week.

“Hard to believe that today is my last chemo session after five months,” he said.

“Weirdly I started on New Year’s Eve 2018 and here I sit in June 2019 for the final one (…) I can’t help thinking of the people in my life who didn’t make it over the last three years since my original diagnosis and feel so lucky and grateful that I get to be here.

“Singing & Gigging mean more to me than ever. Here’s to the next one!”

Kennedy also specifically thanked the staff at St James’s Hospital, who he said were “incredible” and “so cheery no matter what.”

The singer’s post has received much praise online with many people congratulating him for finishing chemotherapy and thanking him for his honest words throughout his diagnosis.
