We all loved the dreamy Givenchy gown that Meghan Markle wore to wed her prince yesterday.

The new Duchess of Sussex chose an understated but stunning sleeved boatneck dress for her ceremony at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

She switched it for something with a little more Hollywood glamour for her evening reception.

You couldn’t but be wowed by the sight of Meghan emerging from Windsor Castle in her bespoke high-neck Stella McCartney dress but those who looked closer will have spotted that Meghan was also sporting a tribute to the woman who would have been her mother-in-law.

Harry had given his new bride her ‘something blue’ – a piece of jewellery from Princess Diana’s collection.

Meghan wore the hefty aquamarine ring on her right hand.

“I thought she could have gone with something blue with a piece of jewellery for example in her first look, but we saw it in her second look with her ring belonging to Diana,” Eva Hartling of Maison Birks, one of Meghan’s favourite brands, told PEOPLE.

“I think that was symbolic.”

It was just one of many ways that Diana’s memory was incorporated into the day.

The family paid the loveliest tribute to the princess, who died in 1997, by leaving an empty seat next to Prince William, who played the role of best man.

Diana’s three siblings were also present, with her sister Lady Jane Fellowes giving a reading during the ceremony.

Otherwise, there were white roses included in the floral arrangements and Meghan’s own bouquet was constructed from forget-me-nots – Diana’s favourite flower.
