Hollywood star Alec Baldwin was arrested in New York yesterday for riding his bicycle the wrong way on the street and acting belligerently towards police officers.
According to reports the actor was approached by two officers who spotted him riding the wrong way on 16th Street near Fifth Avenue in Manhattan on Tuesday morning.
It was when he was asked for his identification that he allegedly started acting belligerently and was subsequently arrested.
Baldwin was issued a summons for riding a bike the wrong way and disorderly conduct before being released. He is due to appear in court in July.
Following the incident, the 56-year-old took to Twitter. He wrote: “Officer Moreno, badge number 23388, arrested me and handcuffed me for going the wrong way on Fifth Ave.
“Meanwhile, photographers outside my home ONCE AGAIN terrified my daughter and nearly hit her with a camera. The police did nothing.
“New York City is a mismanaged carnival of stupidity that is desperate for revenue and anxious to criminalize behaviour once thought benign”.
He added: “I asked both police officers to ticket me. If they contend that I asked for special treatment, they are lying”.
Baldwin is best known for starring in hit comedy 30 Rock. He has also had roles in a number of films including The Departed and It’s Complicated.
