It May Be A Weekend For Staying In: Rain, Wind And Yet More Flooding Predicted

January weather is always pretty grim and this year we don’t seem to be getting any break from the rain. The weekend is predicted to be fairly dismal with heavy rain, high winds and flooding all on the cards. While the whole country is to be affected by these conditions, the wild west will be the worst off. Here's what the Met Eireann website has to say... On Friday night, heavy showers of rain, hail and sleet will continue and will fall as snow in places. It will become increasingly windy overnight. Lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees. Saturday will be very windy or stormy with widespread heavy showers of rain, hail and sleet. Westerly winds will be strong to gale force with severe gusts of between 90 and 130 km/hr. The winds will be strongest in coastal counties of the southwest, west and north. The strong winds along with very high waves and high tides may cause coastal flooding. Highest temperatures of 5 to 7 degrees. The wind forecast for Saturday 1st February Winds will gradually ease on Saturday night. Showers will die out in many areas, but will continue in the west and north. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +2 degrees with frost in places. Sunday is set to improve slightly but Monday sees the rain return... again. It looks like a cosy weekend by the fire might be the best option!
