Dakota Johnson has split from her boyfriend, Matthew Hitt.
The actress, who plays Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades, had been dating the musician since July 2014 but the two are understood to have broken up in December, with Hitt feeling uncomfortable with Johnson’s rising profile.
“Sometime over the holidays, they broke up. Her life was getting too crazy and it wasn’t something that he wanted to be a part of,” a source told US Weekly.
The split is said to have been amicable, with the source adding “it wasn’t a bad break”.
Johnson recently revealed that she admired her character in the hit movie and has “acquired a bit more self-worth and strength” during the process of filming.
“I was really affected by the fact that this girl is totally herself and has such honour and courage. I think the loss of a woman’s virginity is one of the most profound moments in her life and she experiences this, coupled with the unique interests of Christian,” she said.
“Throughout the entire thing she has such strength and honour. That was something I admired and I wanted to be a part of. I wanted to amplify that and maybe make it acceptable for more women to feel that that’s an OK way to be.”
