Hands up who else still breaks out in a cold sweat at the thought of an exam hall?

Most Irish adults have emotional scars from the Leaving Cert that an entire fleet of therapists would have a serious job dealing with.

Now, with exam season once again lurking on the horizon, James Kavanagh has shared a story that’s made us think the importance of the whole damn education system.

Writer Brian O’Flynn yesterday asked the Twitterverse to share stories of when they were unprepared for an exam or work situation and still came out OK.

James fired back with this:

If that doesn’t make you feel like everything in life is going to be grand, nothing will.

Taking to Instagram today, James explained that his Leaving Cert had no bearing on how the rest of his life has gone.

“OBVIOUSLY try your best and all that,” he wrote.

“But I literally got enough points to do a basket weaving course on the Aran Islands (which I regret not doing tbh, sounds stunning) but I somehow landed a job in PR for 6 years and now I’m doing my own bits and who knows where I’ll be in 5 years?

“But know that there are many roads to a happy life. Don’t over-stress yourself. Put your blinkers on, do your bits and do you at your own pace.”

Not going to lie, we’ve a slight tear in our eye at that.

For anyone dreading the Leaving Cert or worried about their future, it’s good to know that there’s more than one path to success.
