John Mayer Reveals Real Reason Behind Split On Ellen

In the past John Mayer just couldn't wait to spill the beans post-break up - Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston to name but a few - but it seems the former lothario has learned that sometimes it's better to keep private details... well, private.

And even though talkshow queen Ellen DeGeneres is a pro at getting the great and the good of Hollywood to give away their most intimate details live on air, she was unable to get even the tiniest sliver of info out of the singer.

Appearing on Ellen's hit talkshow, which airs today in the US, John told his host "It was a very private relationship going in, it was a private relationship during and it's a private relationship still."

The former couple seemed closer than ever at the Grammys in January

And although Ellen went on to say that she loved him and had him in her thoughts, Mayer still refused to dish the dirt on his former lover. "I can understand asking the question based on some previous answers I have given, but I have finally learned how to put the wall between one thing and the other," he explained. "I've been much happier since then."

He did hint that he found being in a couple "a tricky thing", perhaps alluding to a reconciliation in the future.

Mayer and Perry called quits on their relationship last month. The couple briefly split in August 2012 before reconciling again in September.
