He died last month.
John Travolta’s nephew Sam Travolta has passed away. The screenwriter, who was the son of the Hollywood actor’s eldest brother, passed away under unknown circumstances in September.
According to The Sun, the 52-year-old died in his home in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin.
Sam, a struggling screenwriter, spoke highly of his uncle back in 2015 stating that he provided him with some of the funds to pursue his passion – a $1,800 monthly allowance.
“I’m a struggling screenwriter living in a tiny one-bedroom apartment, so John’s money helps,” he told the National Enquirer.
An ex-Scientologist, Sam added that leaving the religion – who is uncle is currently still a member of – could have saved his life.
“Scientology almost killed me,” he said at the time. “It’s psychological warfare and after a while, it gets to you. Things got so bad that I tried to jump off a bridge in Los Angeles in 2007, trying to kill myself.”
Sam’s passing comes just months after the death of John Travolta’s wife, Kelly Preston. The 57-year-old actor passed away earlier this summer following a battle with breast cancer.
Travolta confirmed the news in an Instagram post, writing: “It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer, she fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.”
The American actress and model appeared in dozens of movies throughout her decades long career, including Jerry Maguire and Twins.
Preston and Travolta met in 1987 on the set of the The Experts. They married in 1991 and had three children together.
Their son, Jett, passed away in 2009 while the family were in the Bahamas. Jett had a long history of seizures and this death was attributed to that.
