It has been reported that Hollywood actor Johnny Depp is dating his lawyer from his 2020 UK libel lawsuit.
Joelle Rich represented Depp in the case in which he filed against The Sun for libel. As The Guardian reports, the actor lost the case after Mr Justice Nicol ruled that a column describing him as a “wife beater” was “substantially true”. The judge ruled that Depp had assaulted his former partner Amber Heard on multiple occasions and left her “in fear for her life”.
Rich did not represent Depp at his subsequent defamation trial against Amber Heard earlier this year, though she was present in the courtroom.
According to TMZ, they pair are “definitely dating”. The gossip website has also said that Rich is in the process of getting a divorce from her husband with whom she shares two children.
The bio on Rich’s website states that she “works to defend [clients’] reputations against false and defamatory allegations in print, online, and on social media.”
Earlier this year, Johnny Depp was awarded $10 million in damages after a jury ruled that an article written by Heard was defamatory. Heard was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages after Depp was found liable via his attorney Adam Waldman in one of her three counterclaims.
