The incident occurred on Monday.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been charged with a drink driving offence.

The Irish actor, who currently resides in the US, was involved in a minor collision in LA. Police from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were called to the scene on Monday, where Meyers was taken to a local station.

He was charged with a drink driving offence and is due to appear in court next year.

Meyers, who is best known for his roles in Bend It Like Beckham and the Tudors, has previously stated that he suffers from an “allergy to alcohol.”

In 2009, he was detained in an airport in Paris after allegedly assaulted an employee while drunk. The following year he allegedly verbally abused staff at John F. Kennedy International Airport after becoming intoxicated in the first class lounge.

Later in 2018, he was detained by police at LAX airport following an altercation with wife Mara Lane and for using an e-cigarette on a flight.

Following the incident, he told the Mail on Sunday: “I’ve let myself down by relapsing, and it’s my responsibility. Nobody else is to blame. I actually don’t like the taste of alcohol.

“I would be known as somebody who relapses with problem drinking, not alcoholism. I don’t suffer from alcoholism – I suffer from an allergy to alcohol every time I drink it. But once I stop, I never think about it again.

“That doesn’t mean that the problem is any less, it just means I have a different version of it. But when I drink, the consequences are so devastating that it is a problem. But I never need a drink. It’s not something that I crave.”

Police in LA did not release Meyers’ blood alcohol levels following the recent incident.
