Devastating news.

Jonathan Ross has announced the news that his mum, Martha, has passed away at the age of 79.

Jonathan said:

“Today, my family and I will gather to say goodbye to our Mum, Grandma, Great-Grandma. Martha.”

“A wonderful, loving, glamorous, thoughtful, vivacious woman… Always smiling. Always happy. Always putting us first.”

Jonathan added: “We were so lucky. We love you Mum x.”

The lovely Martha was an extra in Eastenders for years, where she played a stall owner in Bridge Street Market.

Alfie Moon actor Shane Richie, who worked alongside her, tweeted today: “What a lady, what a bloody great lady.”

He added: “I remember how nervous I was on my very 1st day on Albert sq back in 2002, and she just held my hand. She had a heart bigger than any fictional market…thank you Martha.”

What a lovely tribute.

Martha famously lost her role in Eastenders, having accidentally given away some spoilers from a Christmas special while on her son’s radio show.

An EastEnders spokesperson said at the time: “Martha was in breach of her contract. Following what was said on Paul Ross’ broadcast, she was asked not to return to filming.”

She will be missed by many.

Our hearts go out to everyone that knew Martha, friends and family.
