This is why Kate and Meghan were so far away from each other on the balcony last week

Makes sense.

Last weekend, the annual Trooping of the Colour parade took place in London.

The day officially celebrates the Queen’s birthday (which is actually in April, FYI, but sure look.)

A number of members of the royal family were there to mark the occasion – including the Cambridge squad, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Yep, Meghan Markle made her first official appearance since giving birth to her son, Archie Harrison Windsor.

And she was positively glowing, as she waved from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

However, many people have been wondering about her, and Harry’s, placement on the balcony.

If you look at the picture of the whole royal family perched on the balcony, you’ll notice that the Cambridge family and the Sussex family are at either end.

As in, they couldn’t be further away.

And naturally, people are jumping to conclusions that the whole thing is part of an ongoing ‘rift’.

Well folks, we hate to disappoint, but there’s a method to the madness – and it mainly has to do with rank.

Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, told PEOPLE:

“Meghan was not as prominent perhaps as some people might have expected, but there’s a pecking order.”

“There was no slight intended, but William being the older, more senior brother would go out first with his wife.”

Fair enough.

However, Meghan and Harry probably also stood back so that the children all had a good view of the parade.

Last year, a palace source said of the balcony:

“There’s no one laying this out, telling her where to stand. And there were a lot of kids who everyone would want at the front.”

So you see? No beef at all – they were just being sound.
