Kate McCann has gone back to work for the first time since Madeline disappeared

She’s back on the frontline.

Kate McCann has gone back to work as a GP for the first time since 2007 after her daughter Madeline went missing in Portugal.

Kate and her husband Gerry both worked as doctors at the time of their daughter’s disappearance 14 years ago.

Working as a full-time GP, Kate has returned to the frontline with the NHS due to the pandemic and is currently working in Leicester.

Gerry has also returned to work since Madeline’s abduction, working as a Professor of Cardiac Imaging at the University of Leicester. He is also a renowned consultant cardiologist at various Leicester hospitals.

Kate had chosen not to return to work after the tragedy in 2007 as her and her husband’s faces were now globally recognised.

Kate has since been doing work as an ambassador for several children’s charities instead of returning to medicine.

With the current global situation putting pressure on the healthcare system, Kate has decided to go back to life as a GP and is said to be “enjoying” her return.

Speaking to The Sun, a family friend said: “Kate’s back working as a doctor. She’s helping out at her local hospitals now and not doing any surgery work.

“She has thrown herself back into a full time job to assist others in need.

“Kate’s enjoying doing her little bit to help but we hardly ever see her and Gerry now. They are both so busy.”

Kate and Gerry became known across the globe after their daughter Madeline went missing from their rented holiday apartment in Portugal in May 2007 while they were out for dinner and left their children to sleep in their bedroom.

While a search has been underway since, there has been no trace of the little girl.
