Kensington Palace respond to reports Meghan and Prince Harry are planning to raise baby gender fluid

Kensington Palace has responded to the reports Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are planning to raise their child "gender fluid".

On Friday, reports emerged that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex - who are expecting their first child in April - "won't impose stereotypes" on their baby. However, according to The Sun, Kensington Palace have now denied this is the case. "This story is totally false," they said in a statement. An insider reportedly close to the couple said that Meghan told the guests about her and Harry's plans to raise their child at her recent baby shower in New York City. They told Vanity Fair she was "talking openly about it", adding:

"Meghan has been talking to some of her friends about the birth and how she and Harry plan to raise their baby. "Her exact word was fluid. She said they plan to raise their child with a fluid approach to gender and they won’t be imposing any stereotypes."

The news comes after hints about the baby's gender broke in the media in the past week. Images from Meghan's baby shower in New York showed pastel pink treats being served, suggesting that it was a girl. But contrasting reports stated that the Duchess told her friends at the shower that she was having a boy - especially after some of the guests were pictured with gifts wrapped in blue paper. Meghan had flown from London to New York on February 15 for a few days of "rest, shopping and good food" with some of her closest friends - and, of course, for the baby shower. A source told BAZAAR.com: 

“The trip is a lovely chance to catch up with friends and spend time in a city she loves. "This will be the last time a lot of them will see Meg until after the baby is born so it’s nice to share precious moments."
