Kerry Katona has opened up about her struggles with dyslexia.

Kerry Katona has opened up about how she couldn’t read or write when she was in her 20s. The Atomic Kitten star discussed her struggles during an interview on Ireland AM.

She explained that she was pregnant at the time and dating Brian McFadden.

“I remember when I first moved to Ireland with Brian, I was pregnant, I couldn’t read or write. I was dyslexic.”

“With Brian being on tour all the time, I did a typing course and I taught myself how to read and write properly,” she shared.

The mum said she struggled to read menus and recalled one incident with her bandmates.

“I’ll never forget, we were in a Mexican restaurant and Liz (McClarnon) ordered fajitas and I was like, “Oh my God, she’s going to eat a dead baby.” Fejitas, fetus. That’s how uneducated I was with food.”

She explained that her mother rarely sent her to school which really affected her ability to read and write.

She said, “Being in Atomic Kitten, bearing in mind I had four sets of foster parents, three refuges, I went to eight different schools which I was very rarely in because my mum never let me go to school really, I couldn’t even spell the word “orange” at one point.”

Viewers praised Kerry for being so open and honest about her struggles and said the reality star will help others in similar situations feel less alone.
