Anyone looking to Kim and Kanye as beacons of social progress would probably be barking up the wrong tree but even by their standards, this is disappointing.
The Kardashian-Wests have been criticised for visiting Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni.
The pair posed for photos with Museveni and gifted him with a pair of Yeezys, Kanye’s designer runners.
The dictator has been in power since 1986 and has overseen some serious human rights abuses in his 32-year reign.
His staunchly homophobic regime has also been accused of jailing and torturing people over their homosexuality.
A number of people online have voiced their dismay at what’s been seen as the power couple’s support for the president.
Hopefully Kim & Kanye are in Uganda advocating for its LGBTQ citizens who face a government that has one of the worst records on LGBT rights & safety anywhere in the WORLD, giving President Museveni a pair of shoes, while he advocates for gay men to be burned in public. pic.twitter.com/IgellgUjPW

Kim and Kanye visited and met the President of what has been described as one of the worst places in the world to be gay and didn’t even bring it up. Uganda hands out life sentences for people they believe have engaged in “aggravated homosexuality.” Great job guys.

I’m not sure where to start with @kanyewest & @KimKardashian hobnobbing with @KagutaMuseveni. This man is arguably one of the most brutal and corrupt war criminals on the continent of Africa. And of course the darling of the US military/intelligence establishment.

.@KimKardashian & @kanyewest – This is shameful. Meeting w/ Musenevi and sharing this personal gift means you approve of him and his backward policies. Pls note that he’s a dictator who has signed an anti-#gay bill in 2014 toughening penalties for #LGBT people in #Uganda. https://t.co/aZrgTnQ1Jb

Kim and Kanye were visiting Museveni to discuss promoting the country’s arts and tourism.
During the meeting, Kim made her apologies and went to leave before her husband.
“The president asked Kim why she had to leave early, she replied that she had to go back to work,” a source told People.
“The president then asked what was her job and Kim, very politely, said that she had a TV show with sisters and family and they were all waiting for her return.”
