Lottie Moss attracts backlash for comments about ‘nepo babies’

Sarah McKenna Barry

“I’m so sick of people blaming nepotism for why they aren’t rich and famous.”

If you’ve been following pop culture news this week, then it’s likely that you’ve seen the term ‘nepo baby’ floating around in the ether.

The phrase relates to the issue of nepotism in Hollywood, which sees the children and siblings of established stars receive opportunities due to their family name. This week, it has gained particular traction following a now viral article in Vulture, which tracked some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, and their familial connections.

One star who is not too happy with the label ‘nepo baby’ is Lottie Moss, the sister of Kate Moss.

Taking to Twitter, she wrote: “I’m so sick of people blaming nepotism for why they aren’t rich and famous or successful – obviously it’s not fair that people who come from famous families are getting a leg up because of that but guess what? Life isn’t fair – if you put your mind to something you can accomplish anything! ”

Lottie went on: “So instead of being negative about other peoples success go and try and create your own!”

In some follow up tweets, Lottie acknowledged her privilege and said that she was “grateful” for the opportunities that have come her way as a result of who she is related to.

She wrote: “I obviously am so grateful that I have had the opportunities I’ve had don’t get it twisted (….) Obviously I’m privileged being related to a huge model (….) And am privileged for numerous other reasons and as I say I am grateful for it all but shitting on others because of it makes NO sense.”

Just last week, Lottie Moss spoke about her famous sister, and claimed that Kate “never really supported” her with her career.

In a post on Instagram, she wrote: “I understand I have come from a very privileged position being the sister of someone very famous but believe it or not that person never really supported me, my parents were amazing but could not relate to what I was going through and did not know the full extent of what I was going through most of the time, I was pretty much on my own so I had to navigate this by myself and do the best I could which I feel I have.”
