Love Island’s Amber Gill could be banned from Instagram over ad controversy

Ellen Fitzpatrick

Not looking good.

Love Island winner Amber Gill has been warned that she could be banned from Instagram after she failed to follow advertising rules on her posts.

The 24 year old is no stranger to promoting products on her Instagram page, which boasts a whopping 2.4 million followers.

But now, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has put the influencer on a “watch list” along with other Love Island stars and she could get reported to Trading Standards for any breaches.

Francesca Allen, Jess Gale, Eve Gale, Belle Hassan, and Anna Vakili are all also on the “watch list”.

The ASA has stated that the influencers who are placed on the list are there for failing to disclose ads on their social media platforms despite being warned and given advice on how to abide by the rules.

About Amber, they wrote: “We will continue to monitor her content and, if she fails to follow the rules in future, she could also be subject to further sanctions.”

While they did not say which of her posts flouted the rules, it seems that her more recent posts that promote products have hashtag ad on them.

The other Love Island girls have had “further sanctions” put on them as Instagram now alerts them over “their failure to follow the rules”.

Further action to this includes “working with social media platforms to have the content of non-compliant influencers removed, or refer influencers to statutory bodies such as Trading Standards for consideration of statutory action including possible fines.”
