Man credits Love Island’s Paige Thorne with saving his life

Andy Humphries suffered a stroke, and Paige Thorne was the first paramedic to treat him.

A Welsh man has credited one of this year's Love Island contestants with saving his life. Andy Humphries has expressed his gratitude for paramedic Paige Thorne, who will enter the villa next week. In an interview with Wales Media, Mr Humphries said that he suffered a stroke and collapsed in a doctor's surgery, and when paramedics were called Paige was the one who resuscitated him. He added that she subsequently waited with him both in the ambulance and at the hospital. Mr Humphries told the publication: "When I came round, she was there and was so dedicated, she waited with me for seven hours in the ambulance and as I waited at hospital. "I owe my life to her, and she was so good to me. She waited with me when I got to the hospital, she stayed while I had scans. It happened just before the first lockdown, and she told me that she had not long qualified, but she was amazing and totally wonderful." He went on to say that he was surprised to see Paige on the roster for this year, but that he'll definitely be cheering for her. "She is only tiny, but she has a big personality and she will be fantastic on the show, but I do feel very protective about her and don't want anyone being horrible to her," he said. "I can’t speak highly enough of her. It was only when her shift ended and she had made sure that everyone was fully briefed about my condition, that she left my side." Paige was the first contestant to be announced as part of the Love Island cast on Monday morning. Ahead of her appearance on the show, she said that chose to sign up as the dating pool in Swansea is small. She said: "In Swansea there is just no one I can find, I've tried and there's just nobody there anymore. "I need to break out and broaden my horizons and Love Island just brings everyone together for me. I haven't got to go out and I haven't got to swipe. So, hopefully they can just come to me now!" Love Island starts at 9pm Monday 6th June on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.
