Sarah Hyland has opened up about moving on from an abusive relationship.
The 23-year-old actress appeared on Meredith Vieira’s US chat show earlier this week, where host Vieira asked her about overcoming her “adversity”.
Hyland, who shot to fame playing Hayley in hit comedy Modern Family, shared two quotes to sum up her attitude to the events.
“There are two quotes that I want to say”, she began.
“One is a Dylan Thomas poem: ‘Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light,’ which is one of my favorite poems.It just strikes a chord in me.
“And also Robert Frost: ‘The only way out is through’.
The star added: “People have to go through things in order to become the person they are today, and that’s that.”
Hyland did not directly reference her former partner Matt Prokop, whom she dated for five years. The pair met while auditioning for a High School Musical film in 2008 and both starred in a later Disney movie called Geek Charming.
Earlier this month Hyland was granted a three-year restraining order against the actor after claiming she feared for her life while in his presence.
