Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland has become the latest celebrity to lend her support to the Repeal the Eighth campaign.

The actress, who said she had Irish ancestry, was diagnosed with kidney dysplasia as a child – and has since had ten surgeries, including a kidney transplant.

She hinted at her health problems in the statement that she shared on social media.

The 27-year-old wrote on Twitter:

“I am a woman. I am Irish. I have a slew of health complications that COULD put me in a situation where I would be forced to make a heartbreaking decision.

“If I was a resident of Ireland, the laws in place would kill me. I understand this all too well.”

It comes just days after Saoirse Ronan, Cillian Murphy, Andrew Scott and Liam Cunningham confirmed that they supported Together For Yes in a powerful campaign video.

The chilling video lists the variety of ways in which women are currently affected by the 8th Amendment in this country and calls for this to change, saying: “For women’s safety, for a just society, for a fairer Ireland”.

Pauline McLynn, Sinead Cusack, Ciaran Hinds, Aisling Bea, Tom Vaughan Lawlor, Victoria Smurfit and James Nesbitt also feature in the clip.
