Nell Mescal is speaking out about those nepotism claims
Irish singer-songwriter Nell Mescal has opened up about the impact her famous brother, Paul Mescal has had on her career.
The singer's star is rising and rising, but many believe this is all because of the Normal People star.
However, Nell has slammed those nepotism claims in a new interview with The Sunday Times.
It's evident that Mescal is incredibly talented, but also hard-working and passionate. Her musical success has very little to do with her brother's fame and is all down to her determination and drive.
She told the publication that she knows her worth: "But it’s not true, and that’s something I’ve come to terms with. I know I am where I am because of how hard I work."
In the early days of her career, her peers often asked if she would drop her surname, but she said she's proud of who she is and her brother.
"When I first signed and came over to the UK, a lot of people said, “Do you want to change your name to just Nell?"
She explained that she loves her name and has no intention of ever changing it.
"A lot of people will assume that any room I get into is because of one certain thing," the singer explained.
"We’re family but we’re genuinely best friends"
Despite the nepotism claims, the singer remains close to her brother Paul Mescal.
She admitted it is quite strange seeing the world fall in love with her brother but said he's an incredible person.
"It’s strange seeing so many people fall in love with him, but of course because he’s such a great guy," she shared.
"Paul always supports me. All three of us love being there for each other. We’re family but we’re genuinely best friends," she added.
"We’re like, ‘We’ve got us, this is our five, and this is how we’re going to get through these next few years,’ because it’s very overwhelming all the time," the Warm Body singer added.
There's no doubt the singer will continue to succeed in her career and that's down to her pure talent and not her famous sibling.
