Noooo! One of Ant and Dec’s new shows has just been cancelled

Keeley Ryan

It was filmed in Ireland last year.

Ant and Dec’s newest TV show has reportedly been put on “hold” as it features the duo drinking.

The idea of the series, called Ant and Dec’s DNA Journey, is similar to the lineage-tracing BBC series Who Do You Think You Are?.

As both of the presenters have Irish roots, they flew to Ireland last year to trace their ancestry, which included filming in Co Leitrim.

The pair visited Carrick-on-Shannon, Drumshanbo and Drumkeerin during their trip to the county, filming in Frank Davitt’s Bar and in the church in Drumkeerin – among other locations – while they were there.

But following Ant’s car crash last week that saw him charged with drink-driving, it’s said to be “touch and go” if the series will ever air.

The Daily Star report that producers think it wouldn’t be right to air the footage, as it features Ant and Dec drinking.

A source told the publication:

“It’s really touch and go as to whether this show ever sees the light of day now.”

ITV told the outlet that they had “nothing more to add” about their previous statements about the presenter.

But a television insider added:

“Everyone just wants Ant to get better.

“Showing clips of him in a pub is not very fair bearing in mind they were filmed before anyone knew about the demons he was battling.”

The series was filmed in May 2017, around a month before the 42-year-old checked into rehab after he became addicted to painkillers and alcohol after a knee operation.

He later returned to the televisions screens in November last year to host I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! alongside his pal, Dec.

Ant was arrested and charged with drink-driving after a car crash in London last week. One day afterwards, his spokesman said he would be checking back into rehab.

The presenter’s publicist said in a statement:

“Ant has decided to go back into treatment and step down from his current TV commitments.

“He has spoken with Dec and ITV today and asked for time off for the foreseeable future.”
