Paul Mescal and Phoebe Bridgers ended their relationship last winter.
Paul Mescal has given a rare insight into his split from singer Phoebe Bridgers. The
Normal People actor and the singer ended things in December 2022, despite claims they were engaged.
Mescal keeps his personal life out of the limelight, but recently opened up to
Esquire about the split and even revealed some of the advice his co-star Andrew Scott shared with him.
The Irish actors are set to star alongside one another in
'All the Strangers', but were friends before filming.
Following his split from the singer, Andrew Scott told Mescal that all you're left with after a relationship ends is grief.
He told the publication:
"The only thing you’re left with after love is grief. Which is, like, a bleak thing, but I think it’s just a fact,” he said.
The comment comes after the
Aftersun star opened up about the public's interest in his personal life.
He told
Harper's Bazaar: "Eighty percent of that is palatable. And then 20 percent of it is devastating."
"The stuff that hurts
is the personal stuff. It’s nobody else’s business and should never be commented on because it’s indecent. And it’s unkind.
"Honest answer, it makes me angry… It’s the entitlement to the information that people expect that just drives me fucking mad."
Mescal started dating Phoebe Bridgers in 2020. The couple reportedly bought a house in West Cork shortly before ending their relationship in 2022.
Bridgers is now dating comedian and actor Bo Burnham.
