“There are more important things going on in his life.”

Normal People star Paul Mescal has deleted his Instagram account.

According to reports, the Irish actor felt like the platform was a “drain”, and is enjoying his time away from social media.

A source told The Sun that Paul felt like he was “wasting time” on Instagram, and added that reading comments can take a toll on anyone’s mental health.

“There are more important things going on in his life,” the source said. “He wants to focus his energy into his personal life and his work. He doesn’t need social media for that.”

The insider added that Paul is a private person, who doesn’t “feel the need to share everything online”.

They acknowledged that his absence from the platform may see him miss out on brand deals and endorsements, but Paul doesn’t seem to mind that for the moment.

It’s been a busy few days for Paul. Just last week, the Normal People star made Forbes’ illustrious 30 Under 30 Europe list for 2021.

In their article, Forbes acknowledged Mescal’s career highlights so far, as well as the bright future ahead of him:

“As well as playing the title role in Martin McDonagh’s critically-acclaimed The Lieutenant of Inishmore. Mescal is due to star in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut The Lost Daughter, and as the lead in Benjamin Millepied’s Carmen.”

Phoebe Bridgers, meanwhile, gushed about Paul in her interview with Style on Sunday. The chart-topping musician described Paul as “the sweetest” and “the best”.

Additionally, the Irish actor was also the man of the hour over on Her’s Inside Scoop with Cassie Stokes and Rob Kenny. Rob’s eagle-eye spotted Mescal tucking into some pints in Dublin’s Stoneybatter, and somehow Rob managed to keep his cool.
