The Australian funny woman has been slapped with a lawsuit for defamation.

After calling a journalist ‘total scum’ on Twitter, the 36-year-old comedian and actress has had to face the music after mixing up two Australian journalists with the same name.

According to METRORebel was trying to defend her grandmother after a freelance journalist by the name of Lizzie Jones was accused of visiting the elderly woman in snooping for a story.

However, in a hot-headed attempt to damage the journalist’s name, Rebel tweeted Elizabeth Wilson, a different journalist altogether, who happens to be a features editor for House and Garden. Rebel even went to the lengths of tweeting Elizabeth’s photo, which incurred the wrath of her legions of fans sending abuse to Elizabeth.

Elizabeth has decided to sue Rebel for ‘damages’ after the Twitter debacle, however Rebel has defended herself in the ongoing legal battle, stating “a small portion of her [Twitter] followers were based in Australia” that the posts were removed online after three hours.

According to MamaMiathe REAL Lizzie Wilson that Rebel originally intended to blast has furiously denied the claims.

“I am fiercely rejecting the allegations that have been made against me regarding the harassment of Rebel Wilson’s grandmother I have never, ever, harassed anybody, let alone an  elderly person.

“These claims are so abhorrent.”

Rebel Wilson could be ordered to pay several millions should she lose the lawsuit.
