Renee Zellweger opens up about the downside of playing Bridget Jones

Well, this is disappointing...

Who DARES diss my Bridgey?

Bridget Jones’ Diary is and will remain one of my all-time favourite films.

It’s a ridiculous mix of embarrassing parents, dry English wit and the desperation many women feel at being single, not to mention the unbelievable bad luck Bridget suffers. Gas.

It’s a serious shame to us then that according to actress Renee Zellweger, Bridget Jones has been body shamed throughout her escapades on screen.

The American actress who has returned to acting from a 6-year hiatus, appeared on the cover of Vogue to promote the third film in the Bridget Jones series – Bridget Jones’ Baby.

Speaking about her role as the main character Bridget, Zellweger pointed out the criticism her character receives for not being stick-thin.

Following the revelations that the actress gains weight to play the role of the British diarist, Zellweger spoke of how harsh fans can be towards women’s bodies:

“I put on a few pounds. I also put on some breasts and a baby bump.

“Bridget is a perfectly normal weight and I’ve never understood why it matters so much.

“No male actor would get such scrutiny if he did the same thing for a role.”

Does Bridget look like she cares what you think?
