Saoirse Ronan is defending her friend and co-star
Saoirse Ronan has defended her Foe co-star Paul Mescal after she stunned the actor on The Graham Norton Show last week.
The actress has been praised for her women's safety remark with the clip going viral after her appearance.
Paul Mescal and Eddie Redmayne were laughing about using a phone for self-defense when Ronan reacted perfectly.
The actors found the suggestion funny, but Ronan responded in the most brilliant way, reminding the actors of how dangerous the world can be for women.
Mescal quipped: “Who is actually going to think about that? If someone actually attacked me, I’m not going to go ‘phone.’ "
Ronan swiftly responded saying, “That’s what girls have to think about all the time.”
The actress has certainly raised awareness about the dangers women face, but she has urged the public to watch the clip in full context.
She also took the time to defend Paul Mescal and Eddie Redmayne and has stressed that neither of the actors meant any harm.
Speaking to Ryan Tubridy on Virgin Radio UK: "He completely gets that and completely understands that but I think the fact that there was a moment like that that happened on a show like Graham Norton, which is something that the entire nation channels and to watch and even overseas, it’s something that people tune into.
"It seems to have had an accessibility which seems to have really gained traction, which I think is amazing," Ronan added.
Mescal and Ronan are 'not Hollywood friends'
"Please watch the whole interview or watch at least that part of the conversation, because it really wasn’t about… the boys weren’t sort of like debunking anything that I was saying."
She previously told Document that they became close after working on Foe together.
"We knew each other sort of in passing before, just through friends. We’ve become very, very close since making the film," she said.
Ronan said: "We’re genuine friends; we’re not Hollywood friends," the Brooklyn actress shared.
