Shannen Doherty to honour Luke Perry in upcoming Riverdale episode

Luke Perry passed away in March of this year.

Riverdale star Luke Perry passed away earlier this year after suffering from a stroke. Fans of the show, as well as his co-stars, were shocked and saddened by his death, with millions paying tribute to the star online.

The show’s writers want to pay tribute to him in some way in the next series, and have decided to include his former co-star Shannen Doherty in an episode of the hit Netflix drama.

Luke and Shannen starred in Beverly Hills: 90210 together from 1990 to 1995, and again from 1998 to 2000 and have always remained friends.

She will play a “very emotional, important role” at the beginning of the next series.

The actress announced the news last night on Instagram, saying: “I am deeply honoured to pay tribute to Luke on Riverdale. The care in which this show takes in honouring his memory is beautiful. He is missed. Today. Tomorrow. Forever.”

Riverdale’s showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told RTÉ: “Luke and Shannen were really, really good friends. Luke had talked to me on and off over the years about trying to find something for Shannen on the show and when we were putting together this special episode, we kind of wanted to include special people from Luke’s life.

“There was a very emotional, important role and we sent the script to Shannen and she read it and loved it and said, ‘I want to do it,’ so it’s about honouring their friendship a little bit. I know she was really moved when she read the script and immediately said yes.”
