Coronation Street star Barbara Knox has been charged with drink-driving, according to reports this morning.
The actress, who plays Rita Tanner on the popular soap, has allegedly been charged following her arrest last month. She answered her bail yesterday.
A police statement read: “Police have charged an 80-year-old woman with drink-driving following an incident in Knutsford on 10 March 2014.
“The woman turned up at Knutsford Police Station in relation to a separate mater and was arrested.
“Barbara Knox from Knutsford was charged on Friday 4 April 2014 and will appear at Macclesfield Magistrates on 24 April 2014.”
The news comes only a matter of days after Knox’s daughter, Maxine Ashcroft, received a two-year driving ban after pleading guilty to drink-driving.
Last week it was reported that Ashcroft was arrested for drink-driving after police found her to be three times over the legal limit.
Knox later went to the station to demand her daughter’s release. It was at this point that she was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
