Sydney Sweeney defends family after photos from party attract backlash

“An innocent celebration for my mom’s milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement.”

Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney has defended her family after photos from her mother’s 60th birthday prompted backlash.

The actress posted a number of images from a hoedown inspired family birthday party over the weekend, but in them, fans noticed that one guest was wearing a ‘Blue Lives Matter’ t-shirt.

As well as the Blue Lives Matter t-shirt, fans noticed that Sydney’s brother uploaded photos from the party of some attendees wearing hats in the style of Donald Trump’s Make America Great Again slogan. However, these hats didn’t have the MAGA slogan on them, but read ‘Make 60 Great Again’, a reference to Sweeney’s mother’s age.

Sydney has since took to Twitter to address the criticism, and has said that photos from the party are being used to make an “absurd political statement”. She also asked for fans to “stop making assumptions” about her family’s political beliefs.

“You guys this is wild,” she wrote on Twitter. “An innocent celebration for my mom’s milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention.

“Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone and Happy Birthday Mom!”

In other Euphoria news, it was announced last week that Barbie Ferreiri would not be returning for season three.

“After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character kat, I’m having to say a very teary eyed goodbye,” she wrote on Instagram.

“I hope many of you could see yourself in her like i did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and i hope you guys could feel it. Love you katherine hernandez.”
