Keira Knightley has admitted this week that the spelling of her name is actually a typo.
The actress revealed that her name was supposed to be ‘Kiera’ but that her mother spelt it wrong.
The 29-year-old told Elle UK that her father had decided to name her after a Russian ice skater named ‘Kiera’ but that her mother spelt her name wrong when she went to register the birth.
“I was meant to be named ‘Kiera’ after a Russian ice skater who was on the TV one day,” she said.
“My dad fancied her and nicked her name for me,” she continued. “But it was my mum who went to register my birth, and she accidentally spelled ‘ei’ instead of ‘ie’ because my mum’s cr*p at spelling.
“Apparently, when she came back he said; ‘What the f**k? You’ve spelt her name wrong!’ What were they going to do, though?
“Once it’s on the piece of paper, it’s on the piece of paper. And that’s me. A spelling error.”
