The Kardashians are in a spot of trouble over posts shared on Instagram

This doesn't sound too good.

Uhh.

The Kardashian-Jenner clan have been called out on Instagram posts that:

“do not clearly or conspicuously disclose their relationships with the companies being promoted in the posts as is required by law”.

The reality TV stars were reportedly sent a letter from, Truth in Advertising, an organisation cracking down on “deceptive marketing practices”.

According to Variety, the non-profit based in Madison, Wisconsin, got in touch with the family to say that there were 100 product placements that weren’t openly posted as advertisements.

It’s believed that the family have a period of time to take aforementioned posts down or else the organisation will notify the Federal Communications Commission.

If this happens, an official investigation will be launched and it’s believed that the Instagram posts in question relate to five of the Kardashian Jenner siblings.

Apparently, this isn’t the first time the family have been called out for not disclosing ads.

In 2015, Kim reportedly shared a photo which endorsed morning sickness medicine but didn’t detail the potential side effects.

The mother of two was later forced to remove said post because it didn’t meet certain regulations.

A blog post, featured on the Truth in Advertising website, goes into further detail and explains the issue with the Instagram posts that do not pertain to the necessary regulations.

Executive Director of Truth in Advertising, Bonnie Patten, said:

“When it comes to sponsored social media posts, the law is clear – unless it’s self-evident that an Instagram post is an advertisement, a clear and prominent disclosure is required so that consumers understand that what they are viewing is an ad”.

“The Kardashian/Jenner family and the companies that have a commercial relationship with them have ignored this law for far too long, and it’s time that they were held accountable”.
