Thomas Markle says he told Harry he could marry Meghan on one condition

Thomas Markle told Prince Harry he could marry his daughter Meghan if he promised to never be violent towards her.

In his first TV interview since the royal wedding, Thomas said that the prince had followed tradition in asking Meghan’s father if he could marry her.

“Harry asked for her hand on the phone and I said: ‘You are a gentleman, promise me you will never raise your hand against my daughter and of course I will grant you my permission’,” Thomas told ITV’s Good Morning Britain today.

Thomas said in the beginning, he’d been told by Meghan that she was seeing someone new and that it was a secret.

“I eventually spoke to him and he was a very nice man, a gentleman – very likeable.”

When asked about Meghan marrying into the royal family, he said; “My daughter has been a princess since the day she was born.”

“He made a good pick, didn’t he?”

Thomas said he was “honoured” that Prince Charles stepped in to give Meghan away at the royal wedding after he was unable to attend.

“I was honoured, I can’t think of a better replacement than someone like Prince Charles.”

“I absolutely wanted to walk my daughter down the aisle.”

Thomas also revealed that in their phone calls Harry urged him to give Donald Trump a chance and said that he’s open to the idea of Brexit.

“It’s been over the phone, we’ve had some interesting conversations on the phone. He’s a smart guy. He’s an interesting guy.

“I was complaining I didn’t like Donald Trump. He said give Donald Trump a chance, I sort of disagreed with that.”

He added; “I think he was open to the experiment (of Brexit).”
