Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have shared an update after testing positive for coronavirus.

The Hanks are currently in Australia where Tom has been filming for an upcoming biopic on the life of Elvis Presley.

Yesterday, the much-loved Forrest Gump star told his Instagram fans that he and Rita were in self-isolation after receiving positive test results for Covid-19.

Today, he’s taken to social media to thank those who have been looking after him and his wife and to say “they are taking it one day at a time”.

To the delight of his many fans he signed off quoting his 1992 film, A League Of Their Own: “There’s No Crying In Baseball, writing: “despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball”.

The coronavirus pandemic has resulted in major restrictions across Ireland which will remain in place until March 29.

Colleges, schools, childcare facilities, and cultural institutions are now closed and where possible, teaching will be done online.

Indoor gatherings of more than 100 people and outdoor mass gatherings of more than 500 people are cancelled while people are directed to work from home, where possible.

Speaking yesterday, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said:

“Above all, we all need to look out for each other. Ireland is a great nation, we are great people. We’ve experienced hardship and struggle before, we’ve overcome many trials in the past with our determination and our spirit and once again, we will prevail”.
