“My dad died only a few hours ago.”

Sophia Myles has said that her dad passed away this week after contracting coronavirus.

The Transformers actor’s father, Peter, had been battling with underlying health issues before he was confirmed to have contracted the virus last week.

40 year old Myles had been posting regular updates of her father’s condition over the past week as she visited him in hospital.

She confirmed yesterday that he had passed away.

“RIP Peter Myles,” she wrote on Twitter. “My dear Dad died only a few hours ago. It was the Corona Virus [sic] that finally took him.”

Myles, who is best known for her roles in Doctor Who, Transformers, and Underworld, revealed in 2018 that her dad had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.

For the past week, she has been sharing regular updates of her dad’s condition. She had also been posting photos of herself visiting her father in hospital as he battled his illness.

She referred to one of the images as “the harsh reality of the coronavirus.”

“I just wanted to send a really short message to say thank you all so, so, so much for all your lovely tweets to me,” said Myles in a video yesterday.

“I’m sorry that I’m not able to reply to everyone in person, but thank you to every single one that comes through.”

The UK’s coronavirus death toll currently stands at 240. 93 people have recovered from the virus.
