The move was reportedly sanctioned by the king

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been told to “vacate” their UK residence, Frogmore Cottage.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s spokesperson said a “request” had been made for them to give up the residence, near Windsor Castle.

The spokesperson said: “We can confirm the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage.”

Prince Andrew is set to move into the property following Harry and Meghan’s departure.

Reports have suggested the move, which removes their final foothold in the UK, was sanctioned by King Charles.

It comes weeks after Harry’s controversial book, Spare, was released.

The cottage, which sits within the grounds of Windsor Castle, is a Grade-II listed building.

It also has ten bedrooms and was gifted to the couple by the Queen.

Harry and Meghan spent £2.4 million doing the property up in 2018. The bill was initially covered by taxpayers, but the couple later paid it back.

Last year the couple spent their daughter’s first birthday at the property.

However, they spend most of their time at their home in California.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex vacated their roles as working members of the royal family in 2020.

Following the move, the couple left England they moved to California.
