Nicky Byrne has been unveiled as the Grand Marshal of this year’s St Patrick’s Festival Parade.
The former Westlife star was chosen by festival organisers to be honoured for his contribution to the entertainment industry.
Nicky was in one of the most successful boy bands to come out of Ireland.
As well as the title of Grand Marshal, it also means Nicky will have a lead role in the parade on March 17th.
Writing about the honour on Twitter he said: “Good fun with @stpatricksfest in town. I’m Honoured & V Proud to be #GrandMarshall 2013 on the Dublin Parade #ImStillNickyFromDaBlock [sic]”.
The St Patrick's festival is a big event in the calendar.
Previous Grand Marshals have included Olympic champion Katie Taylor and footballer Mick McCarthy.
