Chris Noth is officially returning as Mr Big for Sex and the City reboot

“How could we ever do a new chapter of the Sex and the City story without our Mr Big?”

Actor Chris Noth, who played Mr Big in the hugely popular series Sex and The City, will be joining the cast for HBO Max’s upcoming reboot.

Noth portrayed Carrie’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) long-time love interest between 1998 and 2004. In The Sex and The City movie, he infamously broke up with Carrie just minutes before their wedding.

To the relief of fans, however, Carrie and Big figure things out and marry in a simple ceremony at the film’s conclusion.

As And Just Like That – the Sex and the City reboot – goes into production this summer, viewers can expect to see how Big and Carrie have been getting on.

Since his time on the show, Noth’s kept himself busy with roles in Manhunt: Unibomber and Tyrant on FX. Fans can also catch him playing opposite Queen Latifah in The Equalizer, a drama on CBS.

Announcing the inevitable return of Mr Big, the show’s executive producer Michael Patrick King said:

“I’m thrilled to be working with Chris again on And Just Like That. How could we ever do a new chapter of the Sex and the City story without our Mr Big?”

The 10 episodes of And Just Like That will see Carrie, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristen Davis) navigate their cosmopolitan life in their 50s. Like the original format, each episode will be just half an hour long.

Also joining the cast for the first time, is Grey’s Anatomy star Sara Ramirez, who will play a new character called Che Diaz.

Earlier this year, fans were dismayed, though perhaps not surprised to learn that Kim Cattrall would not be returning to reprise her role as Samantha.

The actress told The Guardian last year that she “had enough” of Sex and the City after the second film.
