Emmerdale confirms shock return of fan favourite after 20 years away from soap

If there's one thing soaps are obsessed with doing, it's bringing back iconic characters. Whether it's because the plot calls for it, because they want to evoke a sense of nostalgia, or simply because they can't think up a new and original storyline at the moment, they're all mad for a bit of throwback. The latest soap hopping on the 'Remember them?! They were mad' bandwagon is Emmerdale - and their throwback, in fairness to them, looks set to be a good one. https://twitter.com/emmerdale/status/1041705667751489536 Last week, the soap began teasing the return of a mystery woman on Twitter and fans, in turn, began guessing who it could possibly be. They guessed Kim Tate - the absolute wagon who faked her own death, tried to kill someone, and allowed her husband to die under her watch - and they were right. Emmerdale confirmed the news this week that it was indeed going to be Kim Tate who returns to the show. "As there are still some familiar faces from 20 years ago it's felt like coming home and I couldn't have had a more lovely welcome from such a talented cast and crew, so thank you everyone! It's literally been a blast!"

Tate was last seen in the Dales taking off in a helicopter after trying to murder her stepson so, understandably, her arrival probably won't be the most welcome in the world. Can't wait.
