Delightful news.

It’s been confirmed that Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan will reunite for the Neighbours finale.

The soap opera, which has been on air since 1985, is due to draw the final curtain this summer, but not without some significant fanfare.

After months of speculation, the soap has revealed that two of the show’s biggest stars- Kylie and Jason – will be back to Ramsay Street for one last hurrah.

Kylie got her start in show business on Neighbours as she played Charlene Robinson for two years, while Donovan played her partner Scott for three.

In one of the biggest moments in the soap’s history, the characters tied the knot during a 1987 episode.

In a tweet, the official Neighbours account wrote: “Scott and Charlene are the ultimate Neighbours couple and it would not feel right to end the show without them.

“We are thrilled that Jason and Kylie have come home to play a very special part in our series finale. It has been an emotional experience for them, for us and I’m sure it will be for our viewers.”

Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan subsequently shared the news on Instagram, and tagged each other.

Fans, needless to say, were delighted to hear the news of their reunion and took to the comments section to share their excitement.

Aussie drag queen Courtney Act wrote: “Oh. My. Gosh!”

Another fan commented: “Waking up in Melbourne to this amazing news!! Might just have to go for a spin out to #ramsaystreet.”

Earlier this year, Neighbours fans were devastated to learn that the soap opera would be ending after 37 years this summer. Channel 5 decided to stop funding the soap opera, and the shows’ producers were unable to find another channel to fund it. As the soap opera has been mostly produced for the UK market, bosses were left with no choice but to draw it to a close this summer.

The final episode will air on 1 August.
