The two former presidents of Ireland spoke about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

RTE Late Late viewers have been praising a “truly inspiring” interview with Mary McAleese snd Mary Robinson on Friday night’s show.

Ryan Tubridy was joined by the former presidents to discuss the current situation in Ukraine.

The pair won the nation over with their condemnation of the violent attack on the country and their opinions on Vladimir Putin.

Ms Robinson accused the Russian president of having no “moral conscience” and said he will undoubtedly face repercussions for his crimes against the “wonderfully courageous” Ukrainian people.

Speaking about Ireland’s Russian Ambassador, Yury Filatov, Ms. McAleese said:

“I have never had contempt for another human being. But I have contempt for that man and everything that he represents.”

In reference to his comments that Ireland was anti-Russian, she added: “I am sure that Putin would not be impressed that a small nation like Ireland, a nation that is traditionally neutral, is so against this invasion.

“We have clarified that we are militarily but not politically neutral.”

Viewers took to Twitter to praise the women for voicing their opinions on air.

“What an interview with Mary Robinson and Mary McAleese. I admire both women so much,” one person said.

“Two great Irish leaders who are strong, intelligent women, who make me proud to be Irish,” a second wrote.

“Don’t really ever watch the #LateLateShow but happened to see Mary McAleese and Mary Robinson interviewed this evening – both such inspiring women,” another said.

“Wow, what a privilege to hear from our former Irish Presidents Mary Robinson and Mary McAleese advocate for decency and human rights,” a third said.

Later on the show, Dolly Parton joined Ryan live via a video link to discuss her non-profit organisation ‘Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library’, where she gives millions of books to children.
